Irene M. Pirsig, age 97, of Faribault, died on Friday, September 5, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.

Visitation will be at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.

Irene Martha, the daughter of Albert and Wilhelmine (Wilke) Pirsig, was born on February 24, 1917 in Blue Earth. She attended rural schools in Faribault County and Blue Earth Public Schools. Irene continued her education at the Teacher Training Department of Faribault County and earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota - Mankato. She began her teaching career in rural schools of Faribault County, with her next position teaching 7th grade in Elmore. In the early 1950's, Irene began her employment with the Faribault School District at Lincoln Elementary School and retired in 1982 following 47 years of teaching.

Irene was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Education Association and the National Education Association. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa Society for Outstanding Women Educators. As a delegate, she attended many conventions throughout the United States.

Irene volunteered for many organizations including the Blood Mobile, American Cancer Society, Heritage Days, Rice County Historical Society, AAUW, and Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by two nieces, Ruth (and Dave) Wood of River Falls, WI, and Myrna Bronson of Tinley Park, IL; one nephew, Richard (Mona) Pirsig of Augusta, GA; five great nieces and nephews, Zara Pirsig, Ashley Pirsig, Roy Bronson, David Bronson, Sandra Bronson; and many other cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elsie Pirsig; and two brothers, Walter (and Helen) Pirsig and Clarence Pirsig.
