Dale E. Putrah

Services: Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Faribault
  Friday, January 25, 2013 at 3 p.m.
Visitation: At the church on Friday, January 25, 2013 for one hour prior to the service.

Our dad, Dale Eugene Putrah, long time resident of Faribault, passed away at home from complications surrounding an extended illness on Friday, January 18, 2013 less than a month away from his 86th birthday, surrounded by the legacy he leaves behind, the family that loved him so very much.

Born in Rapidan Township, near Mankato, on February 8th, 1927, our dad grew up as an only child with our grandparents, Phil and Mabel Putrah, on a farm there in Blue Earth County. After a childhood full of work and some occasional mischief, he enlisted in the Navy in early 1944 to serve our country in World War II. He spent time on several ships before finally being a part of the fleet on its way to Japan when the war ended. He once commented on a typhoon the fleet went through while in the Pacific and said, "The waves were as high as trees." His experiences there as part of the greatest generation no doubt built the foundation for which he built his life upon.

Following his time in the service, he graduated from college at Mankato State University. After earning his degree, he served as a teacher and principal in Morristown and Blue Earth, Minnesota. During that time, he married Kathleen Gohla. During his more than 20 year marriage to Kathleen, they raised two of us, Dale Jr. and Susan.

The beginning of his professional career came when he joined Elmore Block and Tile, which eventually led to his position of President with Condux International. During his time there, he met a young lady named Kathleen Anderson. On December 31st, 1973, they were married. Rick and Tim then joined Dale and Susan as his children, and our family had officially begun.

Our parents then started the first of the companies that would lead to a long, successful career in the communications industry, Dale Putrah & Associates, a manufacturer's rep firm. Later, they launched Great Lakes Telephone Supply, a distributor of telecommunications products. After selling Great Lakes in 1984, our dad assisted our mom in the beginning of KGP Telecommunications, Inc. He had a profound passion for the business, was born to lead, was a great mentor to many, and ingrained in us the meaning and absolute importance of serving the customer. Always by her side, he was instrumental in building the foundation of KGP, and his prints will forever be part of the company. While building the business, our parents found time to add two more of us to the family. Trevor was born in 1975 and Megan shortly after in 1976.

While the first part of his life was filled with the great depression, poverty, and serving in a World War, the second part of his life was filled with family, friends, and an abundant amount of pure joy. He traveled the world with our mom and great friends, spent dear time with the six of us, and genuinely enjoyed time at the lake with our children, his 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, knew how to work, and earned what was his. We could use many more just like him.

He was preceded in death by our brother Mark, who died as an infant in 1955 and our grandparents, Phil and Mabel Putrah. He is survived by his wife Kathleen of Faribault along with all of us and our families; Dale Jr. (and Linda) of Burnsville and their 2 children and 1 grandchild; Susan (and Jon) Aswegan of Apply Valley and their 2 children and 3 grandchildren; Rick (and Cindi) Putrah of Faribault and their 4 children; Tim (and Julie) Putrah of Faribault and their 3 children; Trevor (and Caren) Putrah of Faribault and their 2 children; and Megan (and Bernie) VonRuden of Lakeville and their 4 children.

While he may be gone, his spirit lives on in all of us. We believe he was a very special guy and truly one-of-a-kind, but admittedly, we are a bit biased...he was our dad.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 3pm at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1207 Prairie Avenue Southwest, Faribault, MN, followed by a "Celebration of Life" reception that evening. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements are being completed by the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault.

The family kindly requests that any donations be made to the American Diabetes Association (http://www.diabetes.org) or Shiners Hospital for Children (http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org) in memory of Dale.

My first husband, Roger, passed away in 1983 and I have remarried. Time heals but memories are forever.

Ron and I will miss Dale and are very glad we did get to see him this summer a couple of times during our stay in Minnesota. He was a great guy, full of fun and a guy who would always "have our backs". Our thoughts and prayers are with Kathy and his wonderful, loyal family. When I think of Dale, it takes me back to the great New Year's Eve weekends our group would spend in St. Cloud. We had such fun. We also shared his love for boating and spent many times on the Mississippi and St Croix with them. We especially remember the time when several of us beached our boats for the weekend. Most of us had gone to bed when Dale's anchors pulled out of the sand, the boat began to drift out into the St. Croix, not for long though as Dale quickly had everything under control. We will be thinking of the family and friends.

Memories

From the ATT family our thoughts and prays are with the entire family. It is quite a legacy that Dale leaves behind. Although I did not know the preceeding companies the company that he and Kathleen built, KGP, has become one of ATT's top 10 vendors out of 45,000 vendors. From the small start to where the company is today speaks volumes as to Dale's character and business capabiltiy. It is a pleasure to have know him and worked around him. Kathleen our deepest sympathies go to you on the loss you have suffered. I could read in your eyes the last time we were together to deep love and concern you had for Dale. I wish you and the rest of the Putrah family nothing but the best going forward. I hope you take a minute to laugh about the good times and remember a bit all of the great things you've accomplished as a family during this sad time. All the best to you! Tim

Dear Kathy and family, I am so sorry to hear about Senior. I have so many wonderful memories from my years at KGP. I could always count on him to give me a hard time in a joking way. I remember him saying things like "Well what have you done for me today"? He always had a smile on his face no matter what the situations were. Even though he has been ill for awhile, these things are never easy. I pray that all you can have comfort in this time. Always wishing the best for all of you! Jo Miller
