Lavonne "Vonnie" Harthun, age 82, passed away peacefully at 9:30am on June 25, 2013 at St. Therese at St. Odilia in Shoreview, Minnesota with family by her side.  Vonnie was an only child born to Carl and Ethel Harthun on September 25, 1930 in Worthington, Minnesota.  She spent her formative years in Faribault, Minnesota where she graduated high school and later received a diploma in nursing from St. Lucas Hospital School of Nursing.  Vonnie continued her education and received a B.A. degree in Psychology from Drake University, and a B.S. degree in Nursing administration and English from Mankato State University both of which she received with honors.  She received a Masterís degree from the University of Minnesota in Nursing Education and Counseling.

Vonnie spent 32 years at the University of Minnesota in various positions, mostly in urology.  She was an OR staff nurse, Head Nurse in the Cysto  Clinic, Supervisor and Department Head of Urology Operations, and the RN Coordinator of the Impotence and Infertility sections of the Urology Department. She was the first nurse at the University to receive a Regentís Chair for her contributions to the Nursing and Medical fields.  In addition to having 35 articles published in 8 different professional journals, she had six patents registered with the U.S. Patent Office and received an appointment to President Clintonís fifteen member Consortium on Health Care in the U.S.A. which met monthly in Washington D.C.

Vonnie was tenacious and determined in all that she did.  She loved life, lived for the Lord, was well traveled and enjoyed gardening, reading, stamp collecting, handicrafts, cooking and photography.  She cared for others and advocated on their behalf.  Her smile and laughter will be deeply missed.  She is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by an aunt, numerous cousins and extended family and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at Berean Baptist Church, 309 E. County Rd. 42, Burnsville, Minnesota at 10am on Monday, July 1 with interment to follow at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Faribault, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Shrinerís Hospital, St. Therese at St. Odilia, or to Berean Baptist Church.

It has been wonderful to have kept in touch with the families over the years. Emily please keep in touch with our family we are great grandparents now and we have plans to visit Arizona in the next year. Shirley thank you so much for keeping us informed about the cousins.
