IRA A. HARGER

Service: Trinity Lutheran Church - Faribault
  Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
   
Visitation: Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Boldt Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.
  Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the church for one hour prior to the service.

 

Ira A. Harger, age 79, of Faribault, died on Monday, November 11, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault, on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.

Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.

Ira A., the son of Ira A. and Anna (Boldt) Harger, was born on September 21, 1934 in Faribault. He graduated from Faribault High School and married Marlene F. Porter on August 7, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault. Ira was formerly employed by Piggly Wiggly for 10 years, Red Owl for 2 years and Nelson's Marketplace for 38 years, all of Faribault, for a total of 50 years in the grocery business. He was an avid historian and enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers and Elvis memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; one sister in law, Donna Harger of Faribault; nieces and nephews, Jane Kallal, Harvey and Nancy Sommers, Diane Sommers, Mark and Sharon Sommers, Shelley and Randy Kotek Linda (and George) Petrangelo, Cheryl (and Warren) Ross, Gary Harger and Brian Harger; three special great nieces and nephew, Chelsea Sommers, Ian Sommers and Ashley Sommers; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harvey Harger; and four half siblings, Howard Harger, Ruth (and Walter) Dusbabek, Mildred (and Clifford) Todd and Geraldine (and Howard) Grindon.

Former co-worker from Nelson's Super Valu) I haven't seen Ira in many years, but I will always remember him for his great sense of humor. No matter how long I went without seeing him, he always remembered me and was ready with a joke!
