ROGER F. SOMMERS

Services Trinity Lutheran Church - Faribault

Visitation Boldt Funeral Home on Monday 4 to 8 p.m.
  At the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service

Roger F. Sommers, age 79 of Faribault, died on Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Steven J. Kuehne officiating. Interment will be at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.

Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Monday, December 3rd from 4 to 8 p.m. and also at church for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Roger Franklin, the son of Glenn Fredrick and Alice Anna Nora (Vail) Sommers, was born March 15, 1933 in Faribault. He was baptized on July 2, 1933 and confirmed on March 30, 1947, both at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault. He graduated from Faribault High School in 1952. Roger married Delores Boernsen at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault on June 9, 1962 and she preceded him in death on May 16, 2012. Together they farmed for numerous years, owned and operated the A&W in Faribault for 27 years as well as other businesses such as, the Un-Furniture Place & Water Rest Shop, Blue Haven Homes and Sommers Oil all in Faribault and Klaggees Ice Cream in Austin. Throughout life he sold his garden produce through farmer's markets. Roger was a member of the Faribault Noon Exchange Club, Kiwanis, and served as an elder as well as in other church positions.

He is survived by seven children, Linda (and Bruce) Donnay of Glencoe, Laurie (and Rev. John) Meyer of Trimont, Richard "Rich" (and Loree Lynn) Sommers of Faribault, Robert "Bob" (and Raquel) Sommers of Northfield, Paul (and Karen) Sommers of Faribault, Christine (and Sean) Sommers-Austin of Bozeman, MT and Carolyn (and David) Sommers Tillotson of Richfield; 15 grandchildren, Tyler Donnay, Sarah, Mark, William and Anna Meyer, Jessica Anderson (and fiance Allen Greenslade), Molly (and Tedd) Pederson, Troy (and special friend, Kim Johnson) Sande, Nicole, Peter, Taylor and Nathaniel Sommers, Elsa Austin, Dylan Ramsey, Alice Tillotson and expecting another grandchild in May; seven step great grandchildren, Logan, Luke, Ava, Gracie, Piper, Chloe, Zachary and Aubrey; two brothers, Raymond Sommers of Faribault and Lester Sommers of Bloomington; three sisters, Dorothy Fischer of Faribault, Della (and Lester) Gunderson of Northfield and Delores Strasser of Apple Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; two brothers, Everett and Donald Sommers and one sister, Betty Hoppe.

My condolences to the family of Roger. I am sorry for your loss of a very kind and gentle man. Both Roger and Delores approached people with a beautiful interest in their lives and a clear willingness to share stories of their own family. I hope in your faith you will celebrate their going home and that your memories are now your treasures.
