She attended Trinity Lutheran School, Faribault from 2nd to 8th grade, graduated from Faribault High School in 1991 and Winona State University in 1996. Stacey taught at Faribault Lutheran School from 1996 until the present. Over the years, she was co-athletic director and coached soccer, volleyball and basketball at FLS. Stacey enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, playing cards and church activities, but her true passion was supporting, nurturing and educating children. She also served as a counselor on mission trips to South Indian Lake, Manitoba, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, an aunt, two uncles and two cousins.

Special thanks to all the caregivers at District One Hospital, The Cancer Center, Cancer Treatment Center of America in Chicago, Faribault Area Hospice and Homestead Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the scholarship fund in memory of Stacey at Faribault Lutheran School.

Memories

I am so sorry to hear about Stacey. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I remember when Stacey and Kellie were in 4-H, they were always so curious, fun, and cute. In softball she was so competitive and always could rally the team to get up and get going. Of course, we always had fun after the games win or lose. She had a great spirit and love for life. She had great dance moves and her wonderful personality made everyone love her. She will be missed by us all but her angel will be always watching over us. With deepest sympathy and hope for better days to come.

Memories

Dear Wayne, Marilynn & Kellie, I am so very sorry to hear of Stacey's passing. She put up a valiant fight. Cancer may have beaten her body, but we all know she is the true winner--she is now with Jesus. There are so many things I can remember from over the years: riding the bus together on the way home from school, being at your house after school until my mom picked us up, watching Stacey be "Freddie Falcon" at sporting events, and I could go on & on. To me, Stacey was like the big sister I never had, but always wanted. Even though she was three years old than me, she would include me in a lot of things when we were growing up, including her birthday parties. I will always remember Stacey having so much zest for life, especially when it came to her students. She has touched so many lives in a positive way. The entire Meland family sends you our thoughts & prayers during this time. May the love & strength of our Lord Jesus guide you in the coming hours, days & weeks ahead.

Memories

I remember, at one of our Chili Jam's at school, Miss Nelson got up on the stage with her 1st grade class and she led them in singing and moving, "Every move I make, I make with you, You walk my way Jesus,...And when they were done, all of Stacey's kids were asked to join Miss Nelson on the stage. The stage was packed, and they were all singing and moving, "waves of mercy, waves of grace, every where I look, I see you face, Your love has captured me,...Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah,...It brought tears to my eyes and I remember thinking, this is why we are at FLS, because of teachers like Stacey, who open their hearts to our children and love them unconditionally. I am so thankful that Stacey has been such a huge part of my children's education and most of all their walk with God. I am sure that Stacey is hearing the words, "Good job my child" Wayne, Marilynn, and Kellie, we will continue to pray for peace and strength for you. And know that the arms that hold you now, are the same arms that hold Stacey.

Memories

Out of all my memories of Stacey -- from way back to the Busy Beavers 4H club softball team, to high school hangouts at the Nelson house, and beyond -- I cannot recall ever hearing Stacey utter an unkind word about anyone. It is amazing to me how many lives one person could touch. I am inspired by the legacy she leaves behind, and so proud to have been among those she called a friend. God's blessings to your family, Stacey. Until we meet again, Sonja

Memories

Dear Nelson family, So many memories of the Nelson family. We have met the Nelson's when our children were very young. Kellie and Stacey were our main babysitters. They were the best. But the memory I want to share is the three years I was able to minister at South Indian Lake with Stacey on our team. The first year Stacey went her and I shared an upstairs bedroom. I can't remember when I laughed so much for a full week. Everytime Stacey would start to say her night time prayers I seemed to have something I wanted to share with her. She would say "sorry God need to put this thought on hold to talk to Pam." and we would laugh. The next year Roger went with us and Stacey kept saying this is a Roger Heiden I never knew. The last year we had to stay with Hilda and William until a home came available for us to stay. There was a plastic rat under the bathroom sink and we had many a laugh over it during the week. We will truly miss her. We thank God for your freiendship. God's Peace, Pam and Roger

Memories

Dear Nelsons, We grieve with all of you at your tremendous loss, but rejoice with Stacey at her tremendous gain. We remember Stacey for the caring, energetic person whom she was as she cared for both people and causes, especially those young people who sat in the desks in front of her every school day. It was a special privilege to partner with Stacey both as a former student and then as a fellow teacher at FLS. Blessings to all of you as you transition to an adjusted lifestyle.

Mom, Dad and Kelly, When I think of Stacey I think of laughter. Always a smile on her face! I am honored to have been blessed with the opportunity to care for Stacey. I chuckle thinking of Stacey and my sister "drinking a cold one" up in heaven while they are watching us here on earth! Take care - you are a wonderful family (even though we kept kicking you out of the room Wayne). Stacey always talked about how lucky she was to be blessed with her parents and sister. Memories

Ms. Stacey was an inspiration to all who met her. I was extremely scared when I learned our son Alix had dyslexia and what his future would be due to the fact we have a daughter who went through the public schools and they failed her. Ms. Nelson took our son and helped him for the summer and then she made it her mission to help us find Ms. Cheryl who tutors our son. She showed us how committed she was to helping all her children as well as their family's. I thank God for her. I know she touched so many lives and I am truley grateful she touched ours. I am so sorry for all the pain your family is going through now but please find comfort knowing how much good she brought to all. We Love You Stacey.

Wayne, Marilynn & Kellie, I am so sorry for your loss but also know that Stacey is with our Lord in heaven and is healthy and happy. Jordan was a student in Stacey's first class and I know that she has always held a special place in Jordan's heart. She also was very influential in Lindsey's life as well. I remember the wonderful moments spent with Stacey at FLS and during the multiple volleyball and basketball tournaments I was able to be a part of. Stacey was such an inspiration to many with her strong Christian Faith and love for so many young children. May you find strength in prayer, friends and family, but most of all in our Lord Jesus.

I was in Stacey's first ever 1st grade class when she arrived to teach at Peace Lutheran, and since then she has been a big part in my life. I will miss her every day. Every time I saw her she would say, "Hey geek." I would give anything to have her say it one more time. Stacey's a fighter. She is so motivating and positive that it was impossible for me to be upset about something when I was around her because she would be so determined to get me to smile. She was my teacher/friend/coach/teammate. I love you, Stacey. I know you're with God and that you are safe. Watch over your family and friends, and feel free to visit us at any time. "God saw she was getting tired, and a cure was not meant to be. He put her arms around her and whispered, "come with me." With tearful eyes we watched her suffer and watched her fade away, although we loved her dearly we couldn't make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands rest. God broke our hearts to show us he only takes the best." RIP Stacey.
