Anthony Walter, the son of Florin and Linda Merchlewitz, was born October 8, 1937 in Stockton. He was raised in Winona and graduated from Winona Senior High in 1955. Anthony married Sandra Risser on July 5, 1958 and began their family with a move to Minneapolis. Tony attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business. His wife, Sandra passed away in 1970. For several years, Tony enjoyed horseback riding and raising cattle on his hobby farms with his two boys. Eventually, following his business career and settling in Faribault, he married Vicky Packer in 1988. Tony was self-employed for many years as a design engineer and tool and die maker, along with working for companies including Honeywell, Product Design and Engineer, Hudson Corp., and Lakeland Ind. He was known in the plastics industry for his many patents. The most notable of which he designed and developed was the first ever twist top cap for the Elmer’s glue bottle. The twist cap then progressed to other bottles in the market place. He was a very talented, gifted, intelligent and loving man, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Many people would come to Tony for advice in areas of his skillful and talented ways and ideas. He was a man of integrity to say the least. He made our lives so complete and loved.

He leaves behind his wife, Vicky; five children, Steve (and Deb) Merchlewitz of Winona, Mark Merchlewitz of Las Vegas, Tonya (and Cliff) Satter of Blaine, Chad (and Angela) Packer of Faribault, Tara Packer (and significant other, Jason Schultz) of Burnsville; nine grandchildren, Amy (and Chris) Woodard, Mindy (and Karl) Schroeder, Kyle and Riley Satter, Shannon, Sean (Marine serving our country in Afghanistan) and Dana Packer, Jacob and Matthew Tuthill; three great grandchildren, Clayton, Emma and Landen; and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Sandra.

Memories

I will always remember Tony as one of the best tooling engineers I ever worked with. My son did some accounting work for him when he was at Lake Country Sales and told me to call him for mold work, as I had just started a mold shop in my garage. This was in the early 90's. and we did many projects togeather. I will miss his friendly smile and good advice.

Memories

I will always remember Tony and have great respect for him! In 1992 he hired me to build plastic injection molds, I had no experience. Over the next five years he patiently taught me a small portion of what he knew, and eventually encouraged me to start my own shop. Tony then supplied me with work for the next several years to get me started. I asked for his advice as recently as a month ago, and will always be grateful for what he did for me! My deepest sympathies to the Family!
